Great Belt Bridge to share new AI solution with the world
Using Artificial Intelligence, Sund & Bælt will be able to keep track on where the Great Belt Bridge requires maintenance. The ambition is to share the solution across the world.
The Great Belt Bridge has laid the foundations for the development of a new algorithm, which will help engineers inspect the bridge’s 330,000 sq. m. concrete. The algorithm has been fed thousands of drone images of the concrete, trained to recognise and identify patterns in the grey surface and then categorise and assess any damage.
This is a new approach to working with maintenance – and identifying future requirements. The long-term ambition is to share the solution with other bridge and infrastructure owners across the world.
“We have always shared our knowledge about the Great Belt Bridge. We’re now embarking on a new chapter in the Great Belt’s operations when we can begin to share our digital solutions,” says Sund & Bælt’s CEO Mikkel Hemmingsen.
The development of the new AI tool is the result of collaboration between Sund & Bælt and Microsoft.
